Rencong

The rencong is the traditional Acehnese dagger, worn as part of everyday dress rather than as a weapon alone. Its gently curved blade and hilt of gold, ivory or horn embody the Acehnese principle that dignity and readiness walk together.

To the people of Aceh the rencong is more than an object — it is a symbol of identity and resistance. During the Aceh War it became an emblem of the struggle, and it remains present in ceremonies of honor to this day.
